Rookie Cookie's Chocolate Chip Cookies

Ethan and I have some very good friends, Ryan and Heather. I have such fond memories of them from now and when Ethan and I were dating.

When Ethan and I were engaged, I lived in Utah and Ethan lived in California. We were engaged for something like 5 minutes, so the separation wasn’t too bad. During that time, Ryan lived in Utah and he would hang out with me. I would make Ryan these cookies and he loved them. He would hoard them and hide them whenever he took them back to the bachelor pad that him, Ethan, cousin Sam and friend Mossi lived in. Heather was Ryan’s girlfriend and she liked these cookies too. But she didn’t know of Ryan’s everlasting fondness for these cookies. So she gave one to Ryan’s stinky roommate, Lyman. Boy, was Ryan angry. The incident ended up being their first fight. I am honored to have their first fight be over my cookies.

In the end, Ryan forgave Heather and all was well. Almost six years later, they are married and just had Wendy Louise.

So I am here to share this recipe with you. I hope you understand what a big deal this is. I have never really shared this recipe. There are a choice few that have it. But I recently realized that I am not Mrs. Fields (much to my dismay) and I need to stop being so selfish. So here you go. They are divine.

2¼ cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
½ tsp salt
1 cup butter, softened
¾ cup brown sugar
¼ cup sugar
1 (3.4 oz) package instant vanilla pudding mix
2 eggs
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
2 cups semisweet chocolate chips

Set oven to 350 degrees F. Sift together the flour, baking soda and salt, set aside.

In a large bowl, cream together the butter, brown sugar, and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the instant pudding mix until blended. Stir in the eggs and vanilla. Blend in the flour mixture. Finally, stir in the chocolate chips. Drop cookies by rounded spoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets.

Bake for 12-14 minutes. Edges should be golden brown.

This is huge. Buffy asked me to try and sneak it out of your cookbook or something, cause she knew you wouldn't surrender it easily.

What an act of selflessness, Whit.

That's pretty funny, I have this recipe and I made it for the 1st time a few months after we were married, and Brian LOVED it. He's always begging me to make them and then when I do, he doesn't let me have any...or anyone else for that matter.

gotta love the famous "1st fight over whitney's cookies"!

the funny part now is that he's not even allowed to eat sugar anymore. so no more yelling at me over cookies- he can't eat them anyway.

Ha, Ha Lindsay! Now I have the recipe too. You told me Whitney made you promise to not share. Thanks Whitney now I don't have to bug Lindsay.

It really is selfless of you to share. My aunt has a recipe that she keeps in a safe-deposit box, for chocolate chip cookies! She gave it to me once. And swore me to secrecy. I don't use it though, because mine are a variation of her secret recipe, and I like them better.

Anyway, your chocolate chip cookies beat the pants off Mrs. Field's. Thanks for sharing.

Just to clarify it wasn't ONE cookie she gave limon. Him and Mossi ate the entire bag. That's why I was pissed!!! But we still love eachother. Good story, Good cookies. For my birthday can you make me some with Splenda?

Meg, that's me. Selfless. All the times.

Katie, these are the best. Brian and Ethan would be friends with the common love of these cookies.

Lindsay, no weak moment at all. You are family and YOU ARE special.

Neen, if you come over to my house, I will make these for you. I'm only like a million miles away.

Heather, so if I never made these cookies, you guys would have never been in a fight and then you would have never made up and then you would have never had a first fight and then you might not have ever been married and then you would have never had Wendy. Thank heavens for those cookies.

Jodi, do you need some cookies???

Aunt Sue, no secrets anymore!

Trish, you make good chocolate chip cookies huh? Prove it.

Mr. Whispers, I haven't forgotten about your request. I saw the grocery store has sugar-free vanilla pudding. Sooner than later.

I just wanted to say hi, and thanks for the recipe! My name is Ryan and I just started dating a girl named Heather about a month ago. She has been really sick with the flu for the last week. I decided to maker her some cookies to cheer her up and make her feel a little better. When I found this delicious sounding recipe with the back story of Ryan & Heather, I knew these were the cookies I had to make. Hopefully we will skip the fighting and go right to the lovin', but if everything works out, I'll send you an invite to the wedding. ;)

Thank You!

I love this recipe. This is the only chocolate chip cookie recipe I use. I made these cookies once and promised myself I will only eat one a day. But I came home one day to my beautiful white custom made dining room banquette being ruined from my puppy eating all the chocolate chip cookie on it. I don't know which made me more angry... My white banquette being ruined or my chocolate chip cookies being eaten by him. Ever since then he's totally addicted to these cookies!

Thank you for sharing the recipe! Totally LOVE IT!!

I don't usually leave comments but these cookies deserve some praise. Chocolate chip cookie recipes vex me because they never turn out. Your recipe is brilliant and now my personal favorite. Thanks!
